Introduction to Newspapers: blog task


Create a new blogpost called 'Introduction to Newspapers' and answer the following questions / or answer on this document and submit on GC:


1) What type of news can you typically find in a tabloid newspaper?

Soft news such as sports and gossip


2) What type of news can you typically find in a broadsheet newspaper?

Hard news


3) If someone is left-wing, which political party are they likely to support? Which newspaper would they be likely to read?

They are mostly labour party voters and read the daily mirror 


4) If someone is right-wing, which political party are they likely to support? Which newspaper would they be likely to read?

Conservative party and read the daily times.


5) Why has there been a decline in newspaper sales in the last 20 years? Be more specific than just ‘the internet has got bigger’. 

There has been a decline as more people have sarted to consume their media online and is more accessible and convenient compared to print but they still have a large fanbase 


6) What is ‘fake news’ (or ‘misinformation’ as it is sometimes known)? Can you give an example of ‘fake news’ from over the last couple of years and say what the impact was?

An example of fake news is when Donald Trump(Ex president of the US) maintained that he won the election over joe biden despite this being not true and in january of 2021 trump supporters stormed the US capitol building.


6) Why is a free press important in a democracy like the UK?

To help communicate stories to the british public and to help stop cover ups from happening such as the Hilsbrough disaster which led to some people from liverpool refusing to buy the sun as they described liverpool fans as murders and to also stop fake news from being published.
