Advertising and Magazines assessment learner response

 Q1: 0

Q2: 1

Q3: 1

Q4: 0

Q5: 2

2) What does CONVENTION mean? How are the conventions of magazines and adverts different?

convention means typical features. the conventions of magazines and adverts are different because on magazines you get cover lines and on adverts you get a picture of the product

3 ) Look at the 'Unseen' text (Grazia magazine picture) and Question 2 and complete the following paragraph:

Kate Middleton is a member of the Royal family so she is rich and important but the magazine also wants her to be seen as relatable and similar to their readership target audience. They do this by using a medium camera shot, showing her body position as she is casual and her facial expression as happy. She is making eye contact with the readers which gives them the feeling that she is smiling. Her hair and make-up are fashionable which reinforces the idea that members of the Royal family or celebrities are people who dress to impress. The colour green of her dress connotes modern  and fresh .

Grazia is a fashion and lifestyle magazine aimed at women. We can tell this from the cover lines Katie caught in the middle and hows shes coping with devastating rift that show the reader that the magazine is telling us about fashion.

4) Look specifically at question 3 - modern social and cultural values in Tatler. Complete the following using your own words:

Tattler is interested in lifestyle and hobbies of the rich and famous elite, which is its target audience. We can tell this through the colour scheme which is pink which has connotations of fashion. The cover lines such as oops my clothes fell off and he new posh rules for the 21st century are talking about _what rules you should follow which will interest the upper class audience because this is targeted at them.

Tattler uses a high fashion model in a professional pose, wearing clothes that look rich and modern. The gold colour has connotations of luxury and this clashes with the hair and make up because her hair is straight and her make-up is edgy which has connotations of messiness.  The setting is blurred but it is outside in some green plants which makes the reader think of nature and this connects with the main cover story 'The New Posh' because ___for people who go to parties
5) Now look at question 5. Make three points you could have made regarding the historical contexts of the OMO advert. Then use your really good analysis of the advert to PROVE this point in a POINT / EVIDENCE (from advert) / ANALYSIS style paragraph.

Women in the 1950's were seen as having to be glamorous and happy with their situation, even if they were doing something mundane (boring) like cleaning. We can tell this by the advert which has __omo makes whites bright. This tells the audience __that the product makes whites bright

Women in the 1950's were usually associated with more domestic tasks such as cleaning, child care and housework and not usually in the world of work. We can tell this by the advert which has a women putting out the clothes . This tells the audience that women were treated like property

6) Personally - give yourself a WWW and an EBI
